Where Chefs Eat in Atlanta

Food enthusiasts are certainly spoiled with a plethora of choices in Atlanta, Georgia and a wide range of excellent restaurants to enjoy! Of course, with so many options, you may have some trouble deciding which culinary adventure to take next. Well, don’t despair! Several celebrity chefs from the show Top Chef revealed some of their favorite dining spots. Read on for a few fantastic options from some of the people who rightly know fine food best.

Restaurant Eugene: Peachtree Hills

Top Chef’s Eli Kirshtein called Restaurant Eugene co-owner Linton Hopkins “the wise Buddha of new southern food.” Chef Hopkins and his wife, sommelier Gina Hopkins, opened their elegant farm-to-table venue in 2004, and it’s still going strong. Serving up a menu offering a bit of Southern flair, Restaurant Eugene makes absolutely everything from scratch using only fresh ingredients grown at farms around the U.S. Not only is every menu choice fresh and full of amazing flavor, if you find yourself curious as to where the quail served with caramelize fennel and King Richard leeks was raised or where the trout being served with baby zucchini and holy basil was caught, simply take a look at the menu. Restaurant Eugene’s prides themselves on using only fresh, natural foods sourced directly from farms and their menu changes according to what’s available, making every meal a new and exciting culinary experience.

Flip Burger Boutique: Berkeley Park

Of course, top chefs aren’t always looking for fine dining when they venture to other cities. Sometimes what they really want is a mouth-watering, messy, gourmet burger! If that’s the case, Eli Kirshtein has another great suggestion in Atlanta, which he praises as “the only 4-star burger restaurant I know.” Flip Burger Boutique is owned by Top Chef runner-up Richard Blais and is quickly building a name for unique gourmet burgers in Atlanta. Chef Hector Santiago agrees, adding along with the boutique burger selection, don’t forget to try Flip Burger Boutique’s liquid nitrogen milkshakes featuring unique flavors like Krispy Kreme and Burnt Marshmallow with Nutella. Of course, the jewels in this establishment’s crown are their burgers and the locals recommend trying the Butcher’s Cut. This is none other than bliss between buns made with Angus beef, caramelized onions, Emmi Roth buttermilk bleu cheese, frisée, and pickled shallots, then topped with red wine jam and soy truffle vinaigrette. If that’s not your style, another favorite choice is the BBQ Burger, Angus beef topped with pulled brisket, bourbon-peach barbecue sauce, apple fennel slaw, and a delightful smoked mayonnaise. Gourmet burgers bring the basic burger to new heights and Flip Burger’s creations are definitely souring with flavor!

Sotto Sotto: Inman Park

If you’re looking for great Italian cuisine in Atlanta, follow Top Chef Hector Santiago’s lead and visit Ricardo Ullios’ restaurant, Sotto Sotto. Santiago praised as a perfect place to enjoy great pasta and Barbera wine. He’s not the only one who thinks so. Since it opened in 1999, Sotto Sotto has been named one of the top 20 Italian restaurants in the U.S., and has served everyone from well-known celebrities to former presidents. The Risotto ai Frutti di Mare comes highly recommended, featuring Carnaroli rice and fresh seafood. For a uniquely delicious experience, try the Tortelli di Michelangelo Buonarroti: veal, pork, and chicken ravioli in a butter-sage sauce made according to Master Michelangelo’s 16-century recipe. No matter which phenomenal dish you choose to enjoy, be sure to check out Sotto Sotto’s award winning Italian wine list with choices certain to please the most discerning palate.
