Horsemanship 101 teaches the core skills of horse psychology and body language, safety, basic groundwork, grooming and hoof care, as well as the proper use of tack and equipment.
- Horse Psychology & Body Language: Horses communicate through ear positions, head height, and nostril flare, and they require clear leadership and mutual trust.
- Safety Around Horses: Always avoid blind spots directly in front and straight behind a horse, speak up when walking around them, and use a quick-release safety knot when tying.
- Groundwork Basics: Building respect on the ground includes leading politely without pulling or lagging, yielding to pressure, and standing quietly.
- Grooming & Hoof Care: Regular brushing keeps the coat healthy, while picking out hooves (starting with the left front and moving around) removes rocks and prevents injuries.
- Tack & Equipment: Learning how to properly fit a halter, saddle, and bridle ensures comfort and control for both rider and horse
Perfect for those 13 years and older either beginning their riding career, returning to riding, or simply wanting to learn the basics of horse ownership.
