Cartersville, GA
The Georgia Polocrosse Club (GPC) will call the Equestrian Preserve in Cartersville, GA home. The club will welcome new members (males and females) of all ages and levels, and will be hosting a clinic (TBA) for players and those interested in learning the game. New riders that can hold a racquet and steer their horse independently in the arena can play.
The game of Polocrosse is a combination of the excitement of polo, the coordination of lacrosse, and the seat of a balanced rider all packed into a game of skill, teamwork, and endurance and played on a field 160 yards long by 60 yards wide. Teams consist of six players with three players on the field at one time alternating players in six or eight minute periods called “chukkas” with six to eight chukkas played during a game. Players use racquets (similar to lacrosse racquets) to pass, catch and carry a rubber ball, and score points by throwing the ball through the opposing team’s goal posts. The player who wears the number 1 jersey is the primary offensive player and scores the goals. The player with the number 2 jersey is the “swing” player and plays both offense and defense in the middle of the field. The player with the number 3 jersey defends the goals.
Any type of horse can play Polocrosse, the only requirement is that they be in sound physical condition – although speed, agility and stamina do play a role. Initial teams will be coed with both adult and junior teams participating in practices 2 times per month and tournaments a couple times a year.
